Hey makers, no points for guessing how much I love to crochet bobble stitch blankets. Here’s one more from my basket of bobble stitch blankets and this one never gets old. Alphabets on a blanket are the ever-green trend in crochet blanket culture and you can do so many variations.
My first alphabet blanket was a granny square blanket where I did one alphabet per square and then stitched all of them together. My YouTube Fam loved this pattern and the entire playlist is available at HERE.Β
The first video in my series is my best performing YouTube video till date – take a sneak peak below
After that I also made a “crochet-as-you-go” blanket where you didn’t need to make the granny squares and stitch them together rather you can just keep crocheting in one-go and still get the block effect. Here’s how this one looked
That brings us to my latest alphabet project which was requested by so many of you’ll and I couldn’t help myself from making it either. So here’s my crochet lowercase alphabet blanket and the entire pattern – Start-to-Finish.
For my lovely YouTube fam and for all visual learners I have an entire playlist showing you the row by row pattern so head over to my YOUTUBE channel – check it out and lets get hooked
Let’s start with the materials.
Supply List :
Yarn :
You can use any medium-weight acrylic yarn for this project. I would recommend any solid or self-stripping yarn.
I used two shades of purple in my favorite yarn – Caron Simple SoftΒ
One of them was in shade Orchid and the other is discontinued so I am not able to find the name.
I just more than 1 n half skein of each color but if you are using the same color then 3 skeins of 170gms each should suffice.
For the border I used Caron Simply Soft in color Dark Country Blue – and you need less than 1/2 skein of this color.
Other than the yarn you would need
Stitches Used :
ch – chain stitch. (yarn over | pull through)
sc – single crochet. (insert your hook | pull up a loop | yarn over | pull through both loops on the hook)
bob – Bobble stitch – 4 dc done halfway in the same stitch (*yarn over | insert your hook | pull up a loop | pull through first 2 * | Repeat * to * 3 times | yarn over | pull through 5 loops on hook )
Gauge:
18 sc stitches – 20 rows ~ 4 inch (10 cm)
Measurements:
Finished afghan size (with border) ~ 39 inch(length) x 27 inch (width)
* Finished size is of the afghan made using the materials listed above. The size may vary if a different yarn, hook, or gauge is used.
* Final size can also be customized by adding a few more rows of border if needed.
Notes :
β The blanket can be made with any yarn and a complimentary hook size. I used 2 complementary shades but you can very well use 1 or multiple shades as you wish. I would however recommend using any yarn that has a good coverage – which means it doesnβt create gaps when you crochet so any medium weight acrylic yarn would best suit this pattern.
β The concept of this pattern is to make bobble stitches on the wrong side of the blanket so they pop-up on the right side.
β Every even row is a plain row of single crochet in every stitch and you should get 113 single crochets on every even row.
β Pattern is written for right-handed crocheting.
β All terms are mentioned in US crochet terms.
β A pipe character (|) is used just to generate some space on the page and doesnβt represent any stitch.
Okay then, letβs start making this beautiful blanket !

Graph for Rows 1 – 36 :
- The purple cells represent Single crochet stitched (sc)
- The blue cells represent bobble stitches
- You will see the row # in the first and last column, only odd rows are represented here since for every even row you will make 113 sc.
- Read the graph left to right for every row.
Β The tutorial for this part of the pattern is right here
So far so good, once you are done with these 36 jump right to the next bunch of rows here >>> PART 2
PS >> See the bunch of buttons at the end of this post for navigating between the different parts.
Take care, happy hooking!!!

Thank you

What changes would I need to make to the pattern if I was making this and I crochet left handed?
Love Yarnoculus!! Do you have any instructions on how to bobble crochet your own words for an afghan blanket? Thanks.
